Psychiatry APC Fellowship Overview

Program Description

The 12-month program emphasizes differential diagnosis using DSM 5 psychopharmacology, neuroscience, psychological and neuropsychiatry assessment, emergency psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, community-based psychiatry, toxicology, adult and child psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry. The primary areas of focus are adult inpatient, crisis, and outpatient services. Additionally, the fellows will receive continued training in the management of acute and chronic medical conditions.

Length of Program: 12 months

Class Size: 1-2

Starting Date: January and June

Required Qualifications: Nurse Practitioner with certification in psychiatric or mental health or Physician Assistant degree is required

Program Mission

The mission of the Regions Hospital APC Fellowship program in Psychiatry is to graduate APCs who demonstrate clinical expertise, ethical behavior, leadership skills, cultural awareness, professionalism and an ongoing commitment to learning. 

Didactic

Psychiatry APC Fellows will be required to study curriculum required for the psychiatry board certification.

Clinical

Psychiatry APC Fellows will devote a significant portion of their training to psychiatry.

Psychiatry Fellowship Timeframe and Expectations

  • Timeframe: 12 months (40+ hours per week (Includes day and/or call experience)
  • Expectations: Psychiatry Call – as part of Fellowship
    • Evening House Officer
      • 3 hours weekday evenings < 60 shifts / 12 months
      • Overnight or Weekend Call
      • 12-16 hour shifts < 26 shifts/ 12 months
