Program Description

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Regions Hospital offers a structures and comprehensive post-graduate program to Physicians Assistants interested in advanced training in Emergency Medicine (EM).  The EM PA Fellowship collaborates closely with the Regions Physician EM Residency Program for clinical and didactic experiences in a variety of supportive environments and specialties to foster critical thinking, interprofessional collaboration, competence and confidence, helping the PA fellow successfully transition into practice at an accelerated rate.

Length of Program: 18 Months

Class Size: 3 fellows per year

Start Date: March or June

Clinical

The PA fellows devote a significant portion of their training to emergency medicine at Regions Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma and Burn Center, and in specialty rotations deemed essential for proficiency.

Didactic

Emergency Medicine PA fellows are required to study the core content curriculum that is required for emergency medicine physician board certification. PA fellows attend weekly conferences with physician residents to foster camaraderie among learners.  Through these learning sessions, the PA fellows acquire knowledge and skill to effectively deliver evidence-based care to patients with urgent and emergent medical conditions. There is also an opportunity for additional training in Ultrasound, EMS, Toxicology, International Emergency Medicine, and research studies.

Schedule

The PA fellows were day, evening and weekend shifts in the emergency department with approximately 40-50 hours per week. Specialty rotation hours may vary.

Required Certifications: ACLS, PALS, ATLS obtained during the program
