2026-2027 Hospital Medicine APC Fellow

I have known since I was a child that I wanted to be a nurse or a teacher and opted to be a nurse because the human body and medicine fascinate me; the intricacies of both are beautiful (teachers are important, too)! When I was in nursing school, I knew I would go back to further my education as a nurse practitioner or certified registered nurse anesthetist. I opted for a nurse practitioner because I truly value learning from each patient, both professionally and personally, and getting to hear everyone’s story because each patient brings a valuable asset to their treatment, but also to my personal self.

I have been a practicing nurse for approximately eight years, and have practiced in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. I have had a variety of experiences as a nurse, including both hospital and in-home care experiences. I have worked in a critical access hospital to a level one trauma center; as well as providing in-home cares for patients post-hospital or post-nursing home stay. I am currently a nurse on a medical-surgical, telemetry unit at Regions Hospital.

I chose the hospital medicine fellowship because throughout my years in acute-care, I have personally observed the fabulous teamwork provided by the hospital medicine team and have been in awe throughout my experiences. Additionally, there is never a dull moment in hospital medicine for which I love because I want to be mentally stimulated and challenged each day.

Outside of work, I have two dogs (Cooper and Murphy) who keep me very active and busy. My favorite hobby is to bake, and I love bringing my baked goodies to work because then I don’t end up eating them all myself. I frequently bake gluten free, and the items I am most known for include homemade brownies, pumpkin bars, scotcharoos, and smores bars.
